How Do You Show Up in Your Biz?

All of the best marketing in the world won’t make up for you not “showing up” in your biz.

Many people get caught up in so many of the details. They get caught up in doing the “right” marketing, having their blog perfect, the technicalities of setting up a list or an auto responder series and on and on. Essentially they lose sight of showing up and being present in their business, getting bogged down by so many details. It doesn’t make you feel very client attractive – more like confused, frustrated, burn out and overwhelmed.

Honestly, it’s not all that uncommon today especially with all of the pressures that many people are facing. Many find it difficult just to keep up.

So, what about you?

Why is it that you do what you do in your biz?

Is that something that you connect to everyday? Even multiple times a day?

It’s absolutely essential to keep that connection and continue to show up even when you don’t feel like results are showing up for you. Keep moving forward, keep taking action, keep asking yourself what you can do next. How can you do something different?

Your Assignment:

Get yourself a notebook or a journal. Each day give yourself five minutes (morning is best) to sit down and simply ask yourself these questions:

  • How am I showing up today in my business?

  • What do I need to change or alter in the way that I am showing up?

Keep this handy so that you can refer to it during the day when things may (and probably will) TRY to derail you. Remember, you have the power to choose how you react to anything. So be clear on how you want to show up and let nothing stop you from creating it.

In abundant gratitude for you,

Hello Desire, Bye-Bye Procrastination!

As a coach, I know how important it is to invest in myself and my business. I have studied with many of the top mentors. I know, firsthand how important it is to be pushed, stretched, and held accountable.

I have the distinct pleasure of being one of Karen Fagan’s private clients. In my opinion, Karen is THE Empowerment Expert. Today in Karen’s weekly ezine, she shared this great article on how to focus on what you desire in your life and your business and what makes people take action to move forward. Say good-bye to procrastination and lack of focus and Hello to Desire!

Having a laser focus on what one is trying to accomplish is the major force behind what propels some people to take action toward their heart’s desires. It is exhilarating to achieve, to finally arrive at a longed for goal. Let’s be honest, nothing great ever comes from procrastination. It carries the feeling of defeat, and you deserve better than that!

What happens when you think about realizing your heart’s desires? Do you often neglect to put into motion the actions that are sure to take you to the reward of reaching your destination? Perhaps you are easily distracted. Simply ‘forgetting where your focus is’ can actually be the biggest road-block to reaching your goal.

I want to encourage you to focus on what you desire – and stay focused – no matter what happens! You will be amazed by the immediate results of this one simple, but crucial, action. Like many other women I’ve coached, who have discovered the power of acting on their heart’s desire, instead of procrastinating, you’ll wonder why you ever put it off in the first place. To help you begin to do TODAY, what should never be put off until tomorrow, I’ve included the following 5 easy steps!

  1. Connect to Your Desires
Most people procrastinate when disconnected from
what they most desire. It is important to reconnect with your heart desires every day. Take time now to reconnect.  Close your eyes, take a deep breath in, and really connect to what you desire most.  Imagine yourself living out your desires (really create the picture in your mind).  How would you feel and what actions would you take?
  2. Be FocusedIf, while taking action toward your desires, you find yourself answering your phone, checking email, wasting a big bunch of hours on face book or online, texting, or doing laundry – it’s time to get focused!  There is a time and place for everything. What I know for sure is that going on facebook and comparing yourself to others is NOT going to manifest your desires. Be focused on one item at a time to increase your success.  Remaining focused allows you to be present in what you are doing.  Set a timer during a task and start to build your endurance for focus.  My sense is that you want to be present in all that you do – whether it is work or play.  By focusing when working, you will be able to fully play when you are playing, because you will not be thinking about what you haven’t done yet.
  3. You Create the Mood People who procrastinate, often do so because they tell themselves they just don’t feel like doing whatever it is that needs to get done.  This is a sure sign that they are out of alignment with what they desire most.  For example, if you desire to lose weight, but tell yourself you don’t feel like exercising, you are working against yourself.  You will begin to find all the justification needed for not exercising, instead of doing the exact thing that will make you feel good and help you achieve your goal.  We are the creator of our moods. Yes, some days our mood will be better than other days. However, when your mood is the problem, the key is to take full responsibility, change your attitude, and create the mood that will allow you to take positive action, moving you closer to your ultimate desires. Do yourself a big, wonderful favor – stop waiting for the mood and create it today!
  4. This is the right time Remind yourself that NOW is the right time.  Why? Because, your life is NOW – not later.  Many clients say “they are waiting for the right time to start,” but I have often found the truth to be that some sort of fear is preventing them from moving ahead. If you find yourself waiting for the fear to go away – chances are, you’ll be waiting a long time. Instead, get curious – and real – about what fears you may have. Understanding just why you are procrastinating will empower you, enabling you to put an end to it and get back on track.
  5. Define Your top priorities for the day I often hear clients say they procrastinate because they don’t know exactly how to start or what to do. I cannot stress enough the importance of getting clear on your top priorities and aligning your energy.  The truth is you have everything you need to get your life done. Take action and be productive, rather than procrastinate.  When I coach clients and help them to reconnect with their heart desires – they can instantly get clarity, define their priorities, and move right out of procrastination.  When you truly align with what you desire you will be amazed at how resourceful you become.

Big Question – Are you doing what you hate?

I really encourage you to answer this question, honestly. Many people procrastinate because they are doing something they hate to do.  In a job they don’t like, they create a business model they think they will like – only to find themselves unsuccessful in changing the fact that they hate what they are doing. To waste time in procrastination only makes you feel worse than you desire to feel or deserve to feel. To love what you do – you must do what you love!

Perhaps cleaning your house is something you absolutely dread. Instead of procrastinating and allowing your energy to be depleted, hire someone to clean house for you. This one decision will considerably free up your energy and allow you to create more love, joy, and money in your life. Perhaps outsourcing isn’t an option for you. If you must do the dreaded job yourself, then reward yourself for a job well done.  Pick a reward that makes you feel absolutely great – and give it to yourself after the task is completed.  It doesn’t have to cost you a thing.

The key is to spend more time in a feel good place, rather than beating yourself up for not getting things done – and wasting your precious time and energy in procrastination.

      Investing in Yourself

If you’ve been following me or you know me, you know how important I believe that it is to invest in yourself. The investment you make in yourself doesn’t always have to come by the way of spending money, but it’s the overall commitment you make to developing and valuing yourself.

Who are you? What’s your story? What is your purpose?

Now you’re probably saying—Whoa!—those are three very profound and thought provoking questions. Yep, you got it! Did I get your attention?

Pick one, get a piece of paper and answer it. You will be amazed to see what you find!

      In abundant gratitude for you,

P.S. Thought you might enjoy a photo that was taken last week with one of my mentors—Fabienne Fredrickson and my mastermind partner, Marian Edvardsen. I am very excited to be investing in myself next month when I study with Fabienne on one of my favorite topics – Mindset! I can’t wait to jump right in.

What Are Your Daily Priorities? – A Self Reflection Exercise

My daily priorities further my life’s goals.

Organization is the compass that keeps my life on course. I choose to organize myself daily to maximize my productivity.  Each morning (or night before), I make a plan for the day by listing my tasks, responsibilities, and what I desire for the outcome of my day. I prioritize my list and start my day as I keep my ultimate goals in mind.

I spend my time doing things that will further my life’s goals.  I also invest time in renewing my strength so I may continue on my journey.  Insignificant activities that simply rob time from my priorities are not listed on my schedule and are okay to say no to!

My time is spent engaging in meaningful activities.  Important things in my life, such as my family and my work, etc. have priority status.  My big picture excludes things that only serve to distract me from my ultimate purpose.

Every individual step I take is part of a greater journey.  I look at each decision I make today as an investment in my future. This is a way of telling me that I am serious about my success.

I have made the conscious choice to move forward with every step I take.  I keep my future goals in mind and I am able to focus even when others try to derail me knowingly or unknowingly.

I plan my activities to minimize wasted time. Having a plan (and sticking with the plan) keeps me accountable to myself and to others.  Reflecting at the end of the day helps me increase my productivity the next day.  When I choose to maintain my priorities, not only do I get closer to my goals, but I also open up to achieve success beyond my imagination.

      Self-Reflection Questions:

      1. How will I better organize my life, today?

      2. What can I do to ensure my task list is focused on my ultimate goals?

      3. How can I be more accountable for how I spend my time?

Help! My To-Do List is Taking Over My Life!

Okay, so you have a to-do list that’s a mile long and even though you cross things off the list, it grows even more.  Just looking at it makes you feel overwhelmed.  Can you relate?

So much of what we as busy women have to do day in and day out can be a daunting.  We manage so many areas – the home, family, work, activities, and on and on.

In reality these tasks and things that we have to do aren’t going to go away.  It’s a matter of how we look at them.

Take a look at your list. Are there things on it that really aren’t serving you?  Are there things that maybe you could delegate?

Guess what?  It’s okay to say no AND it’s okay to look at the list and see what you can delegate.   Imagine the freeing space that will open up on your list!

How do I know? I’ve been there, done that.  I’ve been in those shoes and been burned out from it all.  It’s truly an empowering feeling to be able to say no (and know that it’s ok to do so) and to ask for help when one needs it.

      What are your priorities?

What daily tasks will help further your goals and priorities?

Get clear on that. Keep a master list and then each day come up with approximately five things that you have to do and do them.  If you commit to the plan and do this consistently you will have a true feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction.

      Affirmations for Positive Thinking

I love using positive affirmations on a daily basis.

What is an affirmation, you say?

According to dictionary.com an affirmation is:

      • The act of an instance of affirming; state of being affirmed.
      • The assertion that something exists or is true.
      • Something that is affirmed; a statement of proposition that is declared to be true.

Affirmations are a great tool to have in your positive thinking arsenal.

I speak often about the importance of mindset.  It is such a vital part of our success in anything we do.  Having the right mindset is the single most powerful and important step you can take to change your life.  Affirmations are a great way to aide in changing and developing your mindset.

The power of positive thinking has been studied by the psychiatric medical, scientific and spiritual community and they’ve all determined the same thing – positive thinking has power. Of course, changing the way you think is easier said than done. That’s where positive affirmations become a very useful tool.

A positive affirmation is a statement you can use to replace a commonly held negative statement. For example, if you’re always saying, “I feel fat,” then a good positive affirmation to replace this sentiment might be, “I am comfortable with my body and am the perfect weight for me.”

If your goal is to lose weight, for instance just think about how much more successful you will be and feel when you utilize positive affirmations.  The law of attraction tells us that “like attracts like.”  If you are saying negative statements to yourself, you are only attracting more of that to you.

Positive affirmations help you change your thinking by giving you something to lean on. They help you stay aware of your thoughts, which is the first step to changing them.

Finding the Right Affirmations for You

The next step is to determine what your negative thoughts are and to replace them. Here is a great list of positive affirmations:

      • My body heals quickly and easily
      • I am the picture of good health
      • The more grateful I am, the more reasons I find to be grateful
      • I know that I deserve to be loved
      • I give out love and it is returned to me tenfold
      • I have a wonderful partner and we are both happy and at peace
      • I am the perfect weight for me
      • I make positive healthy choices for myself
      • I express my needs and feelings
      • I am my own unique self – special, creative and wonderful
      • Everything comes to me easily and effortlessly
      • I love and appreciate myself just as I am
      • I accept all my feelings as part of myself
      • I love doing my job
      • I always communicate clearly and effectively
      • It’s okay for me to have everything I want
      • I am getting wealthier each day
      • I have an abundance of energy
      • My mind is calm
      • My thoughts are under my control
      • I am successful in whatever I do

As you look through the list of potential positive affirmations, are any compelling?  Do any of these affirmations resonate with you? The affirmations that speak to you are good ones to start with. For example, if you’ve been struggling with your weight, spend some time thinking about the negative self-talk you have around that issue and find a few positive affirmations which give you the strength and motivation to move through this challenge.

Write out your affirmations; put them on post it notes on your bathroom mirror, in your car, and all around you.  Make a screen saver or change your desktop wallpaper to reflect these affirmations for when you are sitting at your desk working.

Affirmations are the first step towards changing your thoughts, however with any process; it takes time, practice, patience and a love and acceptance for yourself. Negative thoughts will slip in from time to time but as you practice, it will get easier. Trust yourself and the positive affirmation process. It will change your life.

Using Positive Self-Talk to Achieve Success

Do you feel like you are always talking yourself out of success even if you don’t realize it?  You set goals, and then you have nagging thoughts that bring you down.  Maybe you don’t feel up to the task.  Possibly you don’t feel qualified or have the confidence to carry it through.

If you have ever experienced this situation (and who hasn’t, right?), you need to change the way you respond to your inner critic.  Instead of obeying your negative commands, you can use positive self-talk to counter the negativity and overcome these thoughts.

Putting Positive Self-Talk in Your “Toolbox” to Set and Achieve Your Goals

Often times we are filled with so much excitement when we first set goals.  Does this sound familiar? We’re usually good for few days, but then these excited feelings are sometimes followed by self-doubt and self-defeating thoughts that stop you in your tracks before you even get started.  You then feel emotionally paralyzed and take no action.

It can be difficult to make the most of your life when you are constantly talking yourself out of being a success.  We all do this without even realizing it! It can become very frustrating and discouraging to have these thoughts constantly plaguing you.

Positive self-talk is an effective tool to help us commit to our goals and ultimately achieve them. Once you set your goals, you need to be aware that negativity and self-doubt will probably creep in.  It’s only natural for that to happen.  When it does, you will be prepared with positive self-talk or positive affirmations (which you know I love), to counter-act that negativity, self-doubt, and fear.

      Making the Shift

Affirmations are essentially short, positive statements that are affirmed in the present tense.  As you practice your positive self-talk, you will be able to identify those self-defeating thoughts and replace them with a positive/motivating one.  An example of a positive affirmation is: “I am worthy of great success,” or “I am in the winner’s circle.”  These statements could replace something negative such as, “I’ll never be successful,” or “I’m afraid to fail. What if I’m just not good enough?”  Replacing these thoughts will help you move towards your goals than further away from them.

Positive self-talk is easier to implement than you might think with a little commitment. You may not be aware of the severity of the negative dialogue currently within your mind. However, once you begin with positive self-talk, you will suddenly realize that you are self-sabotaging the goals you set for yourself from the minute that you make them. This process can make you aware of exactly how much this inner conversation has been interfering with your life.  It’s really an eye opener!

Through positive self-talk you will be able avoid self-sabotaging behaviors or at least be able to identify these behaviors when they creep in and work through them. When you use affirmations, you’ll have accessible tools to help you push yourself further than ever before. Learning to quiet negativity with positive thoughts is a great move toward setting and achieving your goals.
